FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ST. PETERSBURG, FL, April 22, 2026 – Jamaican-American human rights lawyer Tasha Rodney has called for a comprehensive boycott of Jamaica, citing entrenched corruption, systemic abuse of power, and the repression of fundamental freedoms.
She said the initiative aims to restore accountability, democratic governance, and civil liberties.
Rodney identified three issues she said are undermining Jamaica's democracy:
The call coincides with the anniversary of the One Love Peace Concert, when Bob Marley famously brought together then-Prime Minister Michael Manley and opposition leader Edward Seaga in a historic appeal for peace.
"I have never witnessed corruption of such magnitude in my decades of observing Jamaican politics," Rodney said. "The international community must act decisively. A principled economic boycott is one of the most effective ways to compel reform."
She also called for targeted sanctions against Andrew Holness and urged members of the Jamaican diaspora and international allies to suspend travel, investment and financial engagement with Jamaica until reforms are achieved.
Rodney noted that the boycott would not apply to humanitarian assistance, in order to protect vulnerable populations.
